They wanted to portray the only adult on the show in a way that most babies would see adults. Since adults are so much taller, to a baby it would almost seem like they have no faces. I forgot where I heard that, but it makes sense to me :)

I've noticed that today children can't watch cartoons that are merely fun. Everything has to be super educational. It has to teach you numbers or Spanish. Ridiculous.
